Even a few weeks’ growth can depict the wind,
the scattered alarms and all-out charges,
high-speed shadows pulled up
like shirts off dazzling contours.
Grass could do without the exercise,
the atmosphere care less if it’s
breathable or battery acid. Observers
carved into resistant shapes over time
have to admire April’s scud and shimmer.
Trains approaching a field through the woods
hit the fence line as a leaf or two.
Beneath the glint of the measured fury of a jet
weeds knock heads over who gets the sun.
